Program Description This one-year Ontario College Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and practical skills to work as a care provider in a wide range of health-care environments. Students develop the ability to engage with persons and/or families of various ages and health related needs to promote healthy living. Students learn how to assist clients with their daily personal care needs, such as bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting.
Through a combination of theory, lab practice, clinical/community experience, students understand how to deliver person-centered care to individuals of varying ages, encourage independence and improve quality of life for their clients.
Algonquin’s Introduction to Canadian Health Studies (ICHS) is designed to help international students integrate into the Canadian context in health studies, be more successful in their program, as well as their future employment. This introduction is offered to students with a conditional acceptance to all health studies at Algonquin College, and will not address program-specific content. International applicants who meet the program eligibility requirements are required to complete preparatory courses (4-months in duration): Introduction to Canadian Health Studies (ICHS). Students who successfully complete the introduction will then proceed to their original health program of choice.
