📘 FULL DESCRIPTION

Program Description The majority of youth will develop naturally into law-abiding citizens. For some however, behavioural concerns may arise, which continue into adulthood. Some risk factors impact pro-social development and may result in the youth committing or repeating the commission of criminal offences. An understanding of the issues as well as prevention and intervention strategies can assist in reshaping this behaviour. Determined, passionate and patient, youth justice and interventions graduates combine their education and experience to make a positive impact on the lives of today’s youth. This program is designed for individuals with previous post-secondary education or work experience who wish to pursue a career in youth justice and interventions (see entrance requirements). With a balanced view of justice and treatment philosophies, this challenging graduate program focuses on youth and intervention programs in our community. You learn how to put your skills into practice during your 176 hours of placement within the community. You will learn how to work with youth in various settings including: Community agencies and facilities Courts Educational programs Police services Restorative justice programs Specialized skill focus on:

Behaviour modification Case management Counselling Crisis intervention Grant and proposal writing Youth program design You will have the opportunity to be engaged in hands-on learning, including the planning and presentation of our annual Youth Justice & Interventions Conference.
