Course Description

Program Description Students in a combined degrees program work on two complimentary university degrees simultaneously. A combined degree is generally a 50-course program during which students complete the requirements for both degrees at the same time. When the student graduates, they will be awarded two bachelor degrees, one for each area of study. The bonus is that you complete a combined degrees program in less time than it would take to complete both degrees individually. Bachelor of Arts - History History as an academic discipline examines the past to explain how we got to where we are today. We live in a world that is politically, economically, and socially complex; to engage it effectively and better understand ourselves, we must first understand the many historical factors that shape our lives. Historians work to sharpen the collective memory of society. As a history student, you’ll learn about great leaders of the past and what ordinary people believed and valued — how they lived, worshipped, worked, fought and died. You’ll have the opportunity to take thematic and regional courses in ancient, medieval and modern history from the geographic areas that shaped our world today. Bachelor of Education - Social Studies Education As an Education major, a student develops a strong knowledge base in the subject area they intend to teach. They also receive in-depth preparation in how to teach, including both general and subject area instructional methods. A General Major in the Social Sciences, unlike a single discipline major, allows you to customize your course selection to your interests and abilities. Students in this program will focus on three streams; in addition to the majors listed above, students can also choose from Kinesiology, Native American Studies, and Women & Gender Studies.
