Program Description Students with a degree in Biomedical Engineering can expand their knowledge of the biomedical engineering technology industry and complete their Biomedical Engineering Technology advanced diploma requirements in less time. The healthcare industry in Canada and around the world is growing rapidly. To help meet the demand, healthcare has turned to new and innovative medical technology to improve diagnosis, monitoring and treatment - in doing so health care providers have become dependent on the technology to function properly, to be available, and to be managed in a cost effective and efficient manner by qualified biomedical engineering technolgists. Your skillset includes the ability to assess current and innovative medical technology, purchase, install, calibrate, maintain and manage the life-cycle of critical medical equipment. Biomedical engineering technologists are an essential part of the health care team because they have these skills. Durham College’s Biomedical Engineering Technology lab is fully equipped including: Anesthesia equipment Bedside and central monitoring Biomedical equipment asset management system Dialysis machines Infusion pumps Patient monitor information and database systems Physiological measurement devices You will work with a variety of biomedical patient simulators and test and measurement devices, in addition to the technologies found in our fully equipped medical electronics repair department.
