Genuine Student (GS) Test — How to Prepare
The GS test replaced the old Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement in March 2024. It's a more structured assessment of your genuine intent to study. Here's what immigration officers evaluate:
Your circumstances in India: Current employment, education level, financial situation, family ties. Officers want to see strong ties to India — family, property, career plans. If you have nothing pulling you back, your application looks like a migration attempt.
Your potential circumstances in Australia: Course relevance to your career, value of the qualification in India, and whether you've researched living arrangements and costs. Vague answers like "Australia has good universities" don't work — name specific course modules, faculty, and industry connections.
Value of the course: Does this course logically follow from your previous education and work experience? A BA English graduate applying for a Master's in Cybersecurity will face scrutiny. But a B.Com graduate applying for a Master's in Accounting is logical. The program-profile match is critical.
Immigration history: Previous visa refusals from any country must be disclosed. Lying about past refusals is an automatic rejection. If you have a refusal, explain what changed since then — better scores, stronger financials, more relevant program choice.
