5 SDS Visa Filing for September Intake

Step 1: Secure LOA from 2–3 colleges. Accept the best fit. Pay tuition deposit.

Step 2: Purchase GIC (CAD 20,635) from Scotiabank, CIBC, or SBI Canada. Takes 3–5 business days.

Step 3: Complete upfront medical exam at IRCC panel physician in Chandigarh/Ludhiana/Jalandhar.

Step 4: File SDS application online. Pay study permit fee (CAD 150) + biometrics (CAD 85).

Step 5: Give biometrics at VFS centre. Wait 4–8 weeks for decision.

Step 6: Receive approval → stamp passport → book flights → fly 2 weeks before classes.

7 7 Mistakes to Avoid

1. Applying to only one institution. Always apply to 2–3. Application fees (CAD 75–150) are cheap insurance.

2. Starting IELTS too late. Book PTE if you need results in 2 days vs 13 for IELTS.

3. Ignoring GIC processing time. International wire transfers take 5–7 days. Start immediately after LOA.

4. Choosing on tuition alone. A CAD 18K program with 95% placement beats a CAD 14K program with no co-op.

5. Generic SOP. Every SOP must be tailored to the specific program and institution.

6. Not verifying DLI status. Only DLI colleges qualify for study permits. Always verify before applying.

7. Non-refundable flights before visa approval. Wait for approval or book flexible fares.

Is it too late to apply for September?
No — many colleges accept until June–July. Top universities may have closed, but public colleges have rolling admissions. Apply immediately.

How long does SDS take for September intake?

9 Month-by-Month Application Calendar

January — Research & Shortlist

Identify 5–8 colleges. Check program availability, tuition, co-op options, and province PAL status. Book IELTS/PTE test.

February — Take IELTS/PTE

Target: IELTS 6.0+ for SDS. Results in 13 days. If score is low, rebook immediately — you have time for one retake.

March — Apply to Colleges

Submit applications to 3–5 shortlisted colleges. Most respond within 2–4 weeks. Priority deadline for popular programs.

April — Receive LOA + PAL

Accept your offer. Pay deposit. College issues LOA with PAL (if required). Start GIC process.

May — File Study Permit

June–July — Processing
