Course Description

Program Description Humber’s Journalism graduate certificate program will immerse you in advanced research, writing and interview practices, data mining techniques, and a range of story-telling approaches for work within a multi-platform journalistic or information-gathering environment. You will also have the opportunity to pursue discipline-specific reporting in areas such as science, business, sports and the arts. Using the latest technologies, the program will focus on training graduates for the field of journalism with an emphasis on digital journalism. Graduates of this program will be able to fully function in a digital/online environment including social media and data-based journalism. An emphasis will be placed on providing you with opportunities to practise journalism skills through coverage of live field events. Students will participate in a mandatory work placement which follows the last semester of study. Graduates will emerge with media business skills that can be directly applied to work within established news agencies or as media entrepreneurs and freelance journalists across both traditional media industries and in emerging multi-platform settings. Note: If a student applies for conditional acceptance but later decides to take their IELTS/TOEFL, they will need to reapply and submit a new application.
