Course Description

Program Description Students in a combined degrees program work on two complimentary university degrees simultaneously. A combined degree is generally a 50-course program during which students complete the requirements for both degrees at the same time. When the student graduates, they will be awarded two bachelor degrees, one for each area of study. The bonus is that you complete a combined degrees program in less time than it would take to complete both degrees individually. Bachelor of Education - English Language Arts Education As an English major, your study of language and literature will lead to a better understanding of our world. You'll explore the properties and power of language through courses in the three genres of poetry, drama and prose from the British, American and Canadian traditions. You may also develop your skills in creative writing, select from special topics such as tragedy, comedy and myth, or delve into the life and works of a major author. As an Education major a student develops a strong knowledge base in the subject area they intend to teach. They also receive in-depth preparation in how to teach, including both general and subject area instructional methods. Bachelor of Arts - General Major Humanities A General Major in Humanities, unlike a single discipline major, allows you to customize your course selection to your interests and abilities. Where you compromise depth of focus in one area, you gain breadth of knowledge in a few key areas, thus increasing your flexibility. This multidisciplinary approach provides access to the "big picture" or the wider context of any subject area. Conversely, the courses you choose can enhance your focus and provide a cross-discipline perspective on one particular theme.
