As a Construction Engineering Technician, students will work with home builders and general contractors, bid for construction work and organize and supervise the participation of the various trades involved in a construction project. Construction management is a growing occupation regionally, and across Canada. Students will study in Fleming's new, state-of-the-art Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre.
The program covers:
The interpretation of construction documents, on-site building engineering and safety, quantity surveying (estimating labour, materials and equipment required for a project), building codes and construction contracts. The characteristics of various building types - with an emphasis on sustainable design principles and an understanding of energy and environmental technologies. Practical building layout surveys and quality control testing of various building materials.
