📘 FULL DESCRIPTION

Program Description The first program of its kind in Canada, the Honours Bachelor of Health Care Technology Management (BHCTM) degree addresses an identified need in the health care sector for professionals with a hybrid skill set of expertise in medical technology, life sciences and business practices. As a graduate, you will use your unique qualifications to influence positive patient outcomes, effective and safe use of innovative technologies, and financial stewardship. Health care technology professionals work with clinicians and other health care professionals, including equipment manufacturers and IT specialists, and advise on innovative medical technology planning, purchasing and installation, while ensuring the safe and effective use of medical technologies to enhance patient outcomes and organizational goals. They are also charged with keeping costs manageable and personal information and data secure.

The BHCTM program has been developed by DC in collaboration with members of a Program Advisory Committee that includes subject matter experts and representatives from regional hospitals and health care organizations, advocacy groups, non-profits and major medical equipment manufacturers, including GE, Philips, Aramark and Siemens. The core of the program comprises six streams of study including science and technology, medical equipment and clinical systems, mathematics and quantitative methods, management, research and design, and the health care industry, professionalism and ethics.

The Canadian Occupational Projection System put together by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada has identified managers in health care and medical technologists and technicians as two of the top five in-demand occupations on the horizon between now and 2020.
