Make a Difference through a Great Career MacEwan University prepares you to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse. As a graduate of this program, you will receive a Psychiatric Nursing diploma from MacEwan University. You are then eligible to write the Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Canada Examination and apply to become a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. RPNs have the professional competencies required to promote optimal wellness and provide holistic, client-centred nursing care for those experiencing both mental and physical health problems. Psychiatric nursing is recognized as a distinct profession in Canada as well in many other countries. RPNs have played an important role in health care in Canada for more than 80 years and are the largest group of health care professionals in the mental health field. They are employed in a wide range of settings and in a variety of roles, including as staff psychiatric nurses, addiction counselors, mental health therapists, case managers, and educators.
