Course Description

Program Description Well-trained legal administrative assistants are in demand for their advanced skills in word processing, technology, and communications. This program will provide you with the required knowledge and skills to deliver professional administrative support to any legal team. You will also have two options to gain valuable skills in the workforce and will either complete a field placement or a co-operative education (co-op) experience. This two-year diploma program will provide you with advanced computer skills and a specialized education that will prepare you for a career as a legal office assistant. Emphasis is placed on the practical demands of the job including confidentiality, professional ethics, meeting deadlines and interpersonal relations. You will be immersed into specialized legal terminology and documentation from the very first semester. You will gain a basic understanding of the core areas of legal office administration with emphasis on the practices and procedures of law including: Civil Litigation Real Estate Family Law Corporate Wills and Estates Landlord and Tenant This program offers two options for work integrated learning. Unpaid field placement is available in semester 4 to all students who meet the academic requirements. There is also a paid co-op option available in May to August between semesters 2 and 3 for students who meet the academic requirements, and chose this option in semester 1.
