Program Description
Cambrian's Civil Engineering professors all have proven industry experience and offer practical, hands-on training so that our graduates have well-rounded technical and teamwork skills. Also, the Infrastructure Opportunities Partnership (IOP) provides an opportunity for some students to gain work experience in the private, consulting, and government sectors. Students acquire skills and knowledge to become members of civil engineering teams, responsible for planning, costing, building, maintaining, and rehabilitating roads, bridges, buildings, dams, sewage and water treatment systems, airports, pipelines, subways, and railways. Courses are focused on drafting, surveying, construction methods, costs, quality control, and inspections.
The College's computer-aided drafting (CAD) laboratories provide students with practical, hands-on experience. Students also receive surveying training with fully-automated distance and angle measuring equipment that can store data in an electronic field book that is later interfaced with a computer. To meet the demand for structural steel detailers, students are also taught automated structural detailing.
