Program Description The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program provides students with the opportunity to study subject areas relevant to health career programs at Fanshawe College and to instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of health care disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare students for their chosen health career program.
Admission to the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program does not guarantee admission in a subsequent year to any College program. Successful completion of the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program, however, does enable the student to be given additional consideration when applying for one of the following programs in 2019-2020:
Dental Hygiene Massage Therapy Medical Radiation Technology Paramedic Practical Nursing Respiratory Therapy The Pre-Health Sciences program is completed at the Woodstock campus and the Dental Hygiene program is completed at the London campus.
The Ontario College Advanced Diploma Massage Therapy program at Fanshawe College is built around the guiding principles of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). This particular program explores curriculum beyond just the minimum required for licensure by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. With a strong focus on medical knowledge, students will be exposed to many learning opportunities; both in and out of the classroom; some very unique to the Fanshawe program.
The professional faculty, including Registered Massage Therapists, medical professionals and seasoned professors will provide students with a high calibre experience. Students will learn, first hand, that the practice of massage therapy is the "assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain," as according to The Massage Therapy Act of Ontario. The Massage Therapy program at Fanshawe College is both challenging and rewarding. Through this program, you can acquire more than the core knowledge and skills required to succeed as a massage therapist.
Theory and practice are integral to the program, and students will be exposed to directly learning the skills of a Massage Therapist in the first level. Individual attention is spent by the faculty to ensure you achieve the utmost from your education. Many adjunct therapies to the Massage Therapist will be studied, including: sport massage, clinical massage, pregnancy massage; to name a few.
Successful students will be recommended to the CMTO for their entry exams to the profession. The faculty at Fanshawe College will provide every measure to ensure you receive the greatest preparatory education to take these exams with confidence.
