Course Description

This is a 75% practical programme focused on a wide range of skills for filmmaking and screenwriting. Underpinned and driven by storytelling, on set practice and employability skills, students learn through hands on experience guided by staff, professional filmmakers and experienced practitioners. Students also consider real world issues such as audience needs and effective team working whilst engaged on production activity that emulates professional practices. This may include working with actors or pitching project ideas to a panel of tutors and filmmakers. Students also regularly have the opportunity to contribute to production based staff research projects and multi-camera live event filming. Students can also engage with relevant contemporary practice through annual attendance at the ‘Encounters’ short film festival. All of the department's degrees include a range of practical, contextual and skills-based modules offering students the opportunity to undertake a major project, either in dissertation, screenwriting, or digital film production form in their final year.
