Course Description

Program Description This two-year Ontario College Diploma program prepares students for entry into the manufacturing engineering industry. Students prepare for an extensive variety of dynamic technical positions requiring strong mechanically oriented backgrounds within the manufacturing industry. In a combination of classroom and lab-based environments, students develop knowledge and skills essential to succeed in the multifaceted, fast-paced field of manufacturing engineering. Students cultivate ideas from conception to production within various process streams, such as Solid Modelling, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programming and Process Engineering. By attaining skills in analyzing problems, evaluating options, designing approaches and implementing solutions, students acquire awareness of and familiarity with engineering production processes and environments. Students attain experience by using profession-specific tools, software and machinery, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and CNC machinery. Students gain valuable experience through participation in industry level projects with external or internal industry partners. Graduates may have the opportunity to work in various environments, such as research and development, defence, aerospace, aircraft, medical device manufacturing, and consumer and industrial product industries. Graduates are encouraged to remain current with changes in technology allowing for possible growth into supervisory positions.

The four bridging courses are typical business degree courses offered at virtually any university. Although no two courses will ever be identical, these short descriptions will guide you as to the overall expected outcomes for each of them: 1) Microeconomics: Introduces the learner to the principles of microeconomics. Emphasis is placed on the use of economic models to analyze economic developments accurately and objectively. Students examine the role of prices and competitive markets in the allocation of resources, firm behaviour and market structures, the distribution of income and market failure as well they evaluate the effects of government intervention in the economic marketplace. 2) Macroeconomics: Introduces the learner to the principles of macroeconomics. Emphasis is placed on the use of economic models to analyze economic developments accurately and objectively. Students examine unemployment, inflation, business cycles, economic growth, and international trade and finance as well, they evaluate the government’s use of fiscal and monetary policy.
