Course Description

Program Description Students will acquire the analytical knowledge and skills needed to effectively deal with emerging issues in food, agriculture and resource management. Building on economic theory and applied methods in Canadian and international contexts, three thematic streams are offered for specialization: Food and Agribusiness Management: Fundamental business skills are needed to complement analytical capacities for effective management. These are acquired through advanced projects and case-based courses relating to risk and financial management, agri-business and marketing management. International Development Economics: From a global perspective, food and agricultural markets are inherently linked with issues in international development, such as nutrition and food security. Analytical skills required to assess the role of world agriculture in economic development are at the core of this thematic stream. Resource Economics: This stream focuses on the application of economic concepts and methods to the analysis of issues such as land and resource use and environmental problems. These skills are at the core of evaluating alternative resource management strategies and policies in the national and international context. Beyond the specialization of the thematic streams, the flexibility of this program also provides the opportunity to obtain a minor in related areas, such as business administration and international development. Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics have many opportunities to learn outside of the classroom: Work with faculty on an independent research course where you can design and implement an experiment under the supervision of an expert in the field Join faculty on excursions to Costa Rica and the United States where you will learn about agriculture in other cultures Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics are part of a close-knit community that is friendly and stimulating, with a history of pride, tradition and culture.
