Course Description

Program Description The Faculty of Education provides an empowering, learner-centered environment. Our mission is shaped by a commitment to equity and social justice. We are dedicated to helping teacher candidates, graduate students and in-service teachers learn to: Think critically about the nature of teaching and learning Conceptualize teaching as a lifelong journey of learning Develop the dispositions and habits of mind to adapt to the changing nature of the classroom. The Concurrent General Bachelor of Arts (French Studies)/Bachelor of Education program: Offered jointly over years by the French Studies Program and the Faculty of Education. Prepares individuals to teach with a particular emphasis on teaching French as a Second Language at the intermediate and senior levels (grades 7 to 12). Teachables: Intermediate Senior candidates choose two teaching subjects. Students should consult the Faculty of Education website for a list of teachables and combinations of permitted second teachables. Students should also seek Academic Advising from the department of the second teachable to ensure that there are sufficient courses available to non-majors. Graduates of this program will receive two degrees and will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for teaching French as a Second Language (Core French or Immersion) in the English language school system (Public or Roman Catholic) and fulfill the requirements for recommendation for certification to the Ontario College of Teachers. Offers students the opportunity to begin working towards teaching certification early in their academic career. Students can qualify for the Bachelor of Arts (General) degree in French Studies while concurrently studying education and doing practice teaching in schools. Practice teaching courses begin in Year One of the program. Supplementary Fee: Only applicants who have taken post-secondary studies will be required to pay the $50 Supplementary Fee (indicated below).
