Course Description

Program Description This two-year Ontario College Diploma program trains students to capture, create and alter still and motion images, demonstrating a professional level of craft and creativity in digital imaging. Digital knowledge and skills are integrated with the fundamentals of image making to emphasize the creation of still and motioin work that communicate effectively and meet the needs of clients. Students create a state of the art portfolio, as well as a personal website, using high-end digital cameras to capture professional quality work that demonstrates their creative or technical skills and abilities. Studios are equipped with up-to-date continuous and flash lighting systems, lighting booms, soft-boxes and professional backdrops. Algonquin`s networked, post-production computer labs are equipped with external monitors, scanners, wide format ink-jet and solvent printers, viewing booths, mounting press and colour management systems which allow for the production of high-quality images using industry standard software. Although this program is quite technical, students are encouraged to showcase their creative visual talents while designing and capturing work that communicates effectively. Entrepreneurship, networking skills, branding and marketing are taught in conjunction with modern business practices. Students also complete two weeks of fieldwork, gaining valuable practical and networking experience. The program of study culminates with a professional exhibition of student work to which potential employers and industry representatives are invited.
