Course Description

Program Description This two-year Ontario College Diploma program delivered in a compressed format over 45 weeks prepares students for entry into a wide range of careers in the transportation service industry. Through a healthy combination of theoretical and hands-on technical training, business courses, and the essential skills training that employers are looking for from their employees, students are equipped with the knowledge required for fulfilling and challenging employment in both the administrative and repair fields within the sector. We deliver this program out of our up-to-date Transportation Technology Centre. Fully outfitted with new, up-to-date equipment, the Centre allows Algonquin College to teach the full range of advanced technology involved in today`s motive power industry. This program is offered over three consecutive levels. In Level 01, the majority of the time is spent learning the operational principles of systems used on modern vehicles, which are reinforced in practical hands-on projects. Time is equally divided between theory and hands-on applications. Students also study mathematics, related sciences and communications - each a foundational element to the essential skills sought by today`s employers. In the next two levels, students continue studies in chassis and drivelines, fuel and electrical systems, internal combustion engines, as well as mathematics and related sciences, ethics, communications and marketing. Technical fundamentals are expanded upon in both levels and are reinforced by instruction in advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting procedures. This program provides students with basic automotive skills and knowledge, which can assist them finding employment so they may start the automotive apprenticeship process
