Course Description

Program Description This one-year Ontario College Certificate program provides the theoretical knowledge and practical application environment to anyone interested in pursuing a career in the plumbing trade or related fields. The purpose is to provide entry-level training to individuals new to plumbing, design and construction. Students gain entry-level skills that may be used to pursue a recognized plumbing apprenticeship or explore other related construction careers. Students examine a broad overview of the plumbing field. Topics range from plumbing system design and construction plumbing code and government regulations that mandate the plumbing industry. In a combination of theoretical and applied learning, students explore principles of design, health and safety considerations and requirements, welding techniques, as well as inter-professional communications and practical installation practices in relation to plumbing. Upon successful completion of this program, graduates may find entry-level employment in related fields to plumbing where a strong knowledge of plumbing systems is important such as construction labour, as well as retail and wholesale sales and marketing of plumbing related products. Graduates interested in attaining further education in this field are well positioned to pursue an apprenticeship to become a licensed plumbing journeyman.
