Course Description

Program Description Gain the diversity of knowledge today's employers are looking for by studying and specializing in not one, but two academic disciplines. Philosophy Studying Philosophy at Trent, you'll explore your place in the world, the nature of reality, the meaning of human existence, and the limits of knowledge. By developing your own philosophical position, you'll also cultivate your ability to reason logically, question commonly held assumptions, and ultimately develop a worldview that does justice to the complexity of life. Here, we invite you to experience philosophy through a variety of events including the annual Ryle Lecture series, and become part of a vibrant philosophical community by joining Trent's oldest undergraduate club, the Philosophical Society. Graduates of Trent's Philosophy program acquire advanced skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication - valuable foundations in any number of career paths. Economics Pursue a degree in Economics with exclusive access to leading Economics professors and experts in small-group classes, seminars and workshops. Through your studies in Economics, you'll gain a thorough understanding of the methods and tools required to analyze complex economic issues such as unemployment, inflation, economic growth, and the regulation of the market structure. Resume Boosters: Put your work on display at the Trent Philosophy Society’s annual student symposium Enjoy generous awards and scholarships available exclusively to Philosophy majors Interact with our strong network of Philosophy alumni that stop in from time to time, including Yann Martel, best-selling author of Life of Pi (now an Oscar winning film) Participate in faculty and individual research projects Analyze statistical data provided by Statistics Canada, along with other national and international statistical agencies Get involved in FastStart, an extracurricular program for business-minded students Meet top economic thinkers through guest speaker series and events – in 2018 we welcomed Bank of Canada former governor David Dodge
